PowerFLOW 4.2a includes a new 'Sliding Mesh' option to simulate the actual rotation of arbitrary geometry during the course of simulation. The rotating region(s) can then be visualized in PowerVIZ when processing results. This enables many applications which previously were either not possible or were limited to situations where the transient effects of rotation were not material to the results. A partial list of these newly enabled applications includes:
Fan Noise
Fan Performance
Brake Cooling
Wheel Aerodynamics
PowerFLOW's rotating geometry demonstrates how rotating wheels affect flow structures.
Flow regions colored by velocity.
Multi-blade fan show rotation, with plane colored by velocity.
Exa's Volume Rendering Capabilies Visualize Flow Around Rotating Geometry.
Rotating wheel geometry allows for accurate prediction of turbulent airflow around tires and underbody.
Cross flow fan animation using PowerFLOW 4.2.
Brake cooling can be simulated with rotating geometry capabilities in PowerFLOW.
This ventilated brake shows airflow movement as it spins.
