Thermal Validation Manager

 Role & Responsibilities:

Due to continued growth, Exa Corporation is seeking a Thermal Validation Manager.  The position is located within the Physics Department at Exa, and reports directly to the Director of Physics Validation and Support.  It is expected that the Thermal Validation Manager will manage a number of validation engineers.

The Thermal Validation Manager (TVM) will be responsible for coordinating and leading the validation team responsible for performing validation studies for all thermal applications within the PowerFLOW suite of products.  The validation tasks include comparing fluid simulation results to experimental tests and other numerical results. The results then must be documented, and communicated effectively to customers (internal and external), as well as other groups within the organization, particularly Thermal Product Management (TPM).

The TVM will also be responsible for liaising between development teams and Thermal Product Management group. This roll includes identifying thermal validation needs as defined by the TPM group, agreeing on validation cases, and communicating with TPM in order to ensure their validation requirements are met.  It will also be the responsibility of the TVM to update TPM on the progress and status of current and future thermal validation projects. Close interaction with the Thermal Product Management is essential for the success of the Thermal Validation Manager position.

Additional responsibilities for the Thermal Validation Manager include testing and developing early prototypes of new products, working closely with the physics and software development teams to transition product prototypes through all development stages into general product release.  It will be the TVM responsibility to ensure thermal validation adheres to the formal test spec for new developments as outlined by validation, QA and Thermal Product Management.

As a Thermal Validation Manager you will:

  • Manage a team that will carefully define, run, analyze and document cases that test existing as well as new developments in thermal physics and software, and benchmark the results against known quantities.
  • Work directly with physics and software development on new applications in thermal physics.  This will occasionally require direct development and software implementation, but more often will require close validation and collaboration with dedicated physics developers.
  • Interface with Thermal Product Management group to provide validation support to drive customer adoption and integration.
  • Support thermal physics related issues that arise from customers, as well as from other sectors of the organization. Analyze, diagnose and cut down customer cases so that developers can identify root cause of problem.  Correspond with initiator to inform them during all phases of support process.
  • Ensure maturation, development, and general well being of direct reports.  Manage day to day activities to accomplish overall progress on Thermal Physics Validation goals.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent, that is focused on CFD.
  • Excellent communication skills with strengths in both oral and written form.
  • Thorough understanding of fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to thrive in fast-paced environment.
  • Outgoing, self motivated individual with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong computer skills, especially UNIX.

Additional Skills & Experiences:

  • Experience with Python, and scripting is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

Exa offers competitive compensation and a dynamic, growing company environment.  Benefits include comprehensive coverage for medical, dental, life, disability, flexible spending accounts, 401K savings plan including company match, vacations and holidays, and employee discounts including on-site fitness club membership.
