Senior Vehicle Dynamics Engineer
Role & Responsibilities:
Exa Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in the area of Vehicle Dynamics for a senior technical position in the Ground Vehicle Aerodynamics group, based at Exa Corporation’s Burlington, MA headquarters. This individual will report directly to the Director of Aerodynamics, and will lead computer-aided engineering (CAE) projects combining the disciplines of vehicle aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics.
As a Senior Vehicle Dynamics Engineer you will:
- Support strategic vehicle development projects that enhance Exa’s position in the ground transportation market.
- Lead activities in multi-disciplinary topics combining vehicle aerodynamics with structural analysis, vehicle dynamics, and driver response models to understand the impact of aerodynamic loads on the total vehicle static and dynamic response.
- Develop a strong proficiency in aerodynamics simulations using Exa’s PowerFLOW product, and provide highly responsive engineering insight and problem solving to address our customers’ needs.
- Utilize third-party CAE tools along with PowerFLOW to provide coupled, multi-disciplinary solutions related to ground transportation.
- Perform tasks through-out the aerodynamics simulation process such as: pre-processing, administering simulations, post-processing, and communication of results.
Your work will also support Field Offices throughout the company with customer services projects and some pre- and post-sales customer support. Requirements:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent, with emphasis in vehicle dynamics, structural dynamics and/or structural analysis.
- 4 years experience using CAE tools: Vehicle Dynamics simulation, CFD, FEA, CAD and other geometry tools.
- Familiarity with coupling of CAE tools for multi-disciplinary applications.
- UNIX Skills, script programming and experience with complex graphics tools.
- Demonstrated proficiency in applied mathematics in an area such as: numerical methods, real-time data acquisition, signal processing, image manipulation or spectral analysis.
- Ground vehicle engineering experience, such as manufacturing, motorsports, or performance testing.
- Automotive design and engineering problem-solving skills.
- Strong oral communication skills in English and good presentation/teaching skills.
- Ability to work in a challenging fast-paced environment on multiple customer projects quickly and efficiently, leveraging internal resources at Exa.
- Strong desire for continuous learning.
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to apply these skills cooperatively in a team of experienced professionals.
- Occasional domestic/international travel.
