Geometry Support Engineer

Exa Corporation is seeking a well qualified CAE Modeling Engineer with Mechanical CAD and/or Free-Form Design experience to fill a key position on our global support team.  This position reports to the Technical Customer Support Manager and will be located in Burlington, MA.

Role & Responsibilities:

In this role, you will interact with virtually every automotive and heavy truck OEM world-wide, and several motor sports race teams, who are optimizing the shapes of their next generation vehicles.  As a Geometry Support Engineer you will:

  • Provide front-line software technical support (usually by email) and training to internal and external customers worldwide on the use and application of Exa's software in the areas of external aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, and thermal management.
  • Assist in creating, updating, and maintaining company documentation with input from QA and consulting services to enhance existing documentation.
  • Gain experience with Exa tools and best practices to support customer services projects, as well as some software testing.
  • Collaborate directly with physics, development, and engineering consulting teams as well as product management to gain an understanding of the products and their use.

Requirements/Skills/Qualifications

We will consider candidates from a variety of educational and commercial backgrounds including Engineering, Computer Science, M-CAD, Industrial Design, or related fields.

  •  BS or MS. in Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent
  • 1-2 years experience with meshing tools, i.e., ANSA and HyperMesh
  • A solid understanding of CAE mesh models, their generation and quality requirements as well as experience with common CAE and CAD modeling tools (i.e., Catia, Pro/E, I-DEAS or SolidWorks)
  • Superior spatial reasoning skills with three dimensional geometry and design problems.
  • Previous experience with direct customer interaction and working to support a team
  • Ability to understand customer concerns, take ownership of those concerns, and resolve them in a timely manner
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical engineering software features and applications to end users and leverage internal resources at Exa
  • Experience with design processes, their organization and application
  • Proficiency with computers and software on Windows, Linux, and UNIX
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; an energetic disposition; strong desire to learn, and the ability to multitask
  • Strong presentation and teaching skills; English is necessary
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics fundamentals a plus
  • A strong sense of industrial design and aesthetics are a definite plus
  • Skills in freeform CAD surface modeling (NURBS and Bezier) applicable to automotive design and styling, i.e., ICEMSurf, Imageware or Alias is a definite plus
  • Experience with technical writing, editing, and publishing of application documents with CAE, CAD, graphics tool, or other engineering software a plus
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally, up to 20%
