Director, Thermal Management Applications

Role & Responsibilities:

Exa Corporation is looking for a highly motivated, independent and goal oriented self starter.  The right candidate must be people oriented and able to interact effectively with various levels within an organization, both internally at Exa and externally with customers and partners.

The position reports to the Director of Thermal Product Management and is located in Exa’s office in Detroit, MI.  Frequent travel will be required for this position. This includes:

  • Customer visits (worldwide) to present results and best practices, to perform customer process audits, to participate in experimental activities, etc. In general, these visits will be carried out together with members of Exa’s local sales teams.
  • Participation in internal company events such as sales meetings (semi-annual), trainings, etc.

The objective of this position is to manage Exa’s products for the simulation of underhood and underbody thermal management (cooling airflow and component surface temperatures) in automotive industry.  The main objective of an Applications Director at Exa is to drive revenue, and success will be measured by revenue growth in the respective areas of application.

Additional responsibilities of this position include:

  • Being the lead representative for Exa’s customers and partners for thermal management applications in the automotive industry:
    • Develop and maintain high-level sales presentations and marketing material summarizing PowerFLOW’s thermal management capabilities
    • Understand and analyze current processes customers employ for thermal management related vehicle development, and suggest changes and improvements to maximize the benefit the customer can derive from PowerFLOW simulations
    • Manage partnerships with suppliers of  related CAE tools
  • Being the lead representative (internal) for thermal management applications
    • Provide feedback to Exa’s development team about customer needs and product requirements for thermal management applications
    • Coordinate validation activities with development team
    • Sign-off on new releases for thermal management test cases
  • Management of Thermal Management Partnerships
    • Develop and maintain partnerships proposals and work plans
    • Communicate work plans, results, and other updates to partners
  • Manage team of technical specialists
  • Build relationships with academia and research institutions
    • Identify suitable partners in universities and research organisations
    • Build and maintain relationships with these partners

 Requirements:

  • Minimum BS M.S., Ph.D. or equivalent in an engineering discipline with a minimum of 7 years experience in a position related to thermal management in the automotive industry.
  • Experience in the use of CFD and CAE tools related to thermal management
  • Extensive technical background and experience in thermal management
  • Management experience as a group or department leader
