Aeroacoustics Validation Manager
Role & Responsibilities:
Due to continued growth, Exa Corporation is seeking an Aero Acoustics Validation Manager. The position is located within the Physics Department at Exa, and reports directly to the Director of Physics Validation and Support. It is expected that the Aero Acoustics Validation Manager will manage a number of validation engineers.
The Aero Acoustics Validation Manager (AAVM) will be responsible for coordinating and leading the validation team responsible for performing validation studies for all aero acoustic applications within the PowerFLOW suite of products. The validation tasks include comparing fluid simulation results to experimental tests and other numerical results. The results then must be documented, and communicated effectively to customers (internal and external), as well as other groups within the organization, particularly Aero-Acoustic Product Management (AAPM).
The AAVM will also be responsible for liaising between development teams and the Aero Acoustic Product Management group. This roll includes identifying acoustic validation needs as defined by the AAPM group, agreeing on validation cases, and communicating with AAPM in order to ensure their validation requirements are met. It will also be the responsibility of the AAVM to update AAPM on the progress and status of current and future acoustic validation projects. Close interaction with the Aero Acoustic Product Management is essential for the success of the Aero Acoustics Validation Manager position.
Additional responsibilities for the Aero Acoustics Validation Manager include testing and developing early prototypes of new products, working closely with the physics and software development teams to transition product prototypes through all development stages into general product release. It will be the AAVM’s responsibility to ensure acoustic validation adheres to the formal test spec for new developments as outlined by validation, Quality Assurance and Aero Acoustic Product Management.
As an Aero Acoustics Validation Manager you will:
- Manage a team that will carefully define, run, analyze and document cases that test existing as well as new developments in physics and software, and benchmark the results against known quantities.
- Work directly with physics and software development on new applications of physics as it pertains to aero acoustic problems. This will occasionally require direct development and software implementation, but more often will require close validation and collaboration with dedicated physics developers.
- Interface with Aero-Acoustic Product Management group to provide validation support to drive customer adoption and integration.
- Support physics related issues that arise from customers, as well as from other sectors of the organization. Analyze, diagnose and cut down customer cases so that developers can identify root cause of problem. Correspond with initiator to inform them during all phases of support process.
- Ensure maturation, development, and general well being of direct reports. Manage day to day activities to accomplish overall progress on aero-acoustic physics validation goals.
Requirements:
- At least 4-6 years experience (including industrial experience) with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) focused on acoustic applications, preferably with strong focus on automotive applications.
- Master's degree or PhD in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent, that is focused on Computational Aero-Acoustics (CAA).
- Excellent communication skills with strengths in both oral and written form.
- Thorough understanding of fluid dynamics and acoustic phenomenon.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to thrive in fast-paced environment.
- Outgoing, self motivated individual with a strong work ethic.
- Strong computer skills, especially UNIX.
Additional Skills & Experiences:
- Experience with Python, and scripting is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits:
Exa offers competitive compensation and a dynamic, growing company environment. Benefits include comprehensive coverage for medical, dental, life, disability, flexible spending accounts, 401K savings plan including company match, vacations and holidays, and employee discounts including on-site fitness club membership.
